How to create your own email addresses

What is an email account?

You need an email account to be able to send and receive emails. Using cPanel you can create email accounts for email addresses on your own domain name (eg. name@yourbusiness.com) to make your organization look that little bit more professional.

How do I do it?

First, you need to log in to your cPanel home page. Then follow the steps below:

  1. Click “Manage accounts”
  2. Click “Add account”
  3. Enter the new email address you want to create
  4. Select the domain the email address will reside on (eg. yourdomain.com)
  5. Enter a password for accessing the email account (you’ll need this for downloading emails sent to the email address, and to send emails from the email address)
  6. Enter a quota for the account. This is where you choose how much space you will allow an email account to use up. This space comes out of the hosting space you have available, so make sure you leave enough room for other email addresses and for your web site.
  7. Click “Create”
  8. And that’s it. You’ve create a new email account

What else do I need to know?

Just creating a new email account isn’t much use unless you know how to access it. To send emails and to download the emails sent to the accounts you create you need an email client, and you need to know how to configure that client. Read the article on Configuring an email client for an explanation of this topic.
